Naples, Dec. 17 (LaPresse) – An estimated time of 36-48 hours for 32-year-old Ottavia Piana, who was injured last Saturday in the Abisso Bueno Fonteno cave in the province of Bergamo, and whose recovery is being carried out by Alpine and Speleological Rescue technicians. The condition of the 32-year-old, who is constantly monitored by Alpine and Speleological Rescue medical personnel, is stable. At 8 a.m. this morning, the rescuers with the stretcher finished the route in the secondary branch of the cave, which has not been explored, and are now in the known part of the cave. From their location it takes, under normal conditions, about two hours to reach the main branch, and another 30 minutes to reach the exit. The movement time is marked by one and a half hours of transport and a one-hour break to provide medical care for the injured person. Up to this point, 126 Alpine and Speleological Rescue technicians have been involved, who have formed five rescue teams: some are dedicated to transporting the stretcher, others to anticipate its passage by disassembling sections that could later prove problematic, even with the use of small explosive charges. The entry of the sixth team is scheduled for tonight, that of the seventh for tomorrow. The technicians come from Lombardy, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Liguria, Piedmont, Trentino-Alto Adige, Tuscany, Umbria and Veneto. Additional personnel are expected to arrive from Sardinia. Communication between the outside and inside of the cave is guaranteed by a telephone cable that the rescuers have placed along the entire route of the rescue operation.
