Milan, 18 December (LaPresse) – Several swastikas appeared during the night in the centre of Brescia, in particular on the Bella Italia monument in Piazza della Loggia – the site of the bomb that killed 28 people on 28 May 1974, injuring 102 – and on the wall of the Gambara high school in Via Trieste. The symbols appeared five days after the neo-fascist rally that paraded through the city streets on Friday evening with about 400 people. An anti-fascist demonstration has been called for Friday, 20 December. ‘The swastikas that have daubed the Bella Italia monument and the wall of the Gambara high school in via Trieste are a blatant affront to the democratic and inclusive soul of our city,’ said the mayor of Brescia, Laura Castelletti, in a note. She added: ’We are a silver medal winner of the Resistance, we have been wounded by the neo-fascist massacre in Piazza Loggia, these extremists will not find fertile ground in our city. I expect all the political forces that sit on the city council to distance themselves, clearly, from these unacceptable acts. Brescia is, and will continue to be, free, anti-fascist and democratic'.
