Gran Sasso, Missing Climbers: Rescuers Returned to the Valley

Rome, Dec. 25 (LaPresse) – The group of Alpine rescue technicians and workers stranded for two days at Campo Imperatore on the Gran Sasso has managed to descend to the valley. The weather conditions at high altitude remain prohibitive, reports the Alpine Rescue Service, but a brief moment of weak wind allowed the cable car to operate, enabling the rescuers to return to the valley. The search for the two missing climbers, stranded at the summit since Sunday evening, will resume as soon as weather conditions at altitude permit. The group that descended to the valley includes 11 Alpine Rescue technicians and 8 workers from the 'Lo Zio' refuge. The Alpine and Speleological Rescue group (Cnsas) had been stranded in the hostel during the search for the two missing climbers, Cristian Gualdi and Luca Perazzini, aged 48 and 42 respectively, who slipped into the Vallone dell’Inferno.
