Naples, Dec. 26 (LaPresse) – The intervention of the Carabinieri prevented a 16-year-old girl from Boscoreale, near Naples, from carrying out her intention to take her own life on Christmas Eve. The operation began with a report from Telefono Azzurro to the Carabinieri's operations center in Torre Annunziata about a young girl with mental health issues. She was at the Eav station in Boscoreale, intending to take her life by throwing herself onto the tracks as the next train passed.
The officers obtained the girl’s phone number and called her, managing to earn her trust and encouraging her to share her distress. While the intimate and confidential conversation between the girl and the Carabinieri operator continued, a patrol arrived at the station to ensure her safety in case her phone battery died or she decided to hang up. However, the 16-year-old approached the officers herself, abandoning her intentions.
