Milan, Dec. 24 (LaPresse) – "Christmas arrives on the table. Today marks the final day for shopping for Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas Day lunch: to celebrate the holidays at the table, whether at home or in a restaurant, an average of €126 per family will be spent, totaling approximately €3.5 billion." This is according to the traditional survey on Christmas food consumption conducted by Fiesa Confesercenti-IPSOS.
"This year again confirms the tradition of 'Christmas with your loved ones': 59% of families will host guests on the 24th and 58% on the 25th, and more than eight out of ten Italians will spend the holidays at their own or relatives' homes—83% for Christmas Eve and 81% for Christmas lunch," the analysis highlights, adding that "there is also an 8% who will celebrate at friends' homes on both occasions. Meanwhile, more than 4.5 million people will dine in restaurants: 1.9 million on Christmas Eve and about 2.6 million on Christmas Day lunch, for a total expenditure of around €500 million."
For Christmas Day, "there is a slight decrease in the proportion of people celebrating in a restaurant or another public venue—this year at 7%, compared to 9% last year. However, the share of those celebrating in a rented venue for the occasion remains stable at 2%," the study notes.
