Brussels, 17 Dec (LaPresse) – ‘As set out in our October conclusions, we have deepened our analysis of innovative ways to counter illegal migration, following up on priorities flagged by member states. Discussions are ongoing with Member States, including at last week's Justice and Home Affairs Council, on developing the concept of return hubs in third countries. We are considering how best to introduce into the legal framework the possibility of establishing these hubs'. This was written by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in her usual letter sent to member state leaders to update them on migration ahead of the upcoming European Council on Thursday. ‘We need to examine the legal, operational and practical aspects, as well as the financial implications of such hubs, while respecting fundamental rights and the principle of non-refoulement,’ she adds.
