Tunisia, shipwreck offshore: 20 migrants dead

Milan, Dec. 18 (LaPresse) – Twenty people died and five were rescued in a shipwreck that occurred in the evening off the coast of Tunisia. This was announced by the Directorate General of the National Guard. “Naval units from the central region of the Tunisian Coast Guard intervened this evening and managed to rescue five migrants of sub-Saharan nationality,” the National Guard reports. The boat on which they were traveling sank about 13 nautical miles off the coast of Louza, opposite Sfax, after setting sail yesterday around 11 p.m. from Chebba beach. Rescue operations have so far recovered 20 bodies and rescued five people.
