Automotive, EU Commission: "Strategic Dialogue on the Sector in January"

Brussels, December 19 (LaPresse) – The Dialogue on the Future of the Automotive Industry in Europe will officially launch in January 2025, with the goal of quickly proposing and implementing measures urgently needed by the sector. The European Commission announced this in a statement.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated: "The automotive industry is a European pride and is fundamental to Europe’s prosperity. It drives innovation, supports millions of jobs, and is the largest private investor in research and development. Each sector has unique needs, and it is our responsibility to adapt solutions that are both clean and competitive. We must support this sector in the profound and disruptive transition that lies ahead. And we must ensure that the future of cars remains firmly rooted in Europe. That’s why I called for a Strategic Dialogue on the future of Europe’s automotive industry. We will launch this dialogue as early as January to shape our shared future together."

As the European automotive and supplier industries undergo a profound and disruptive transition, the strategic dialogue will design strategies and concrete solutions to support the global competitiveness of automotive manufacturing in Europe. It will focus particularly on:

Promoting innovation and data-driven digitization, leveraging forward-looking technologies such as artificial intelligence and autonomous driving.
Supporting the sector’s decarbonization through an open technological approach, given its role in achieving Europe’s ambitious climate goals.
Addressing jobs, skills, and other social aspects within the industry.
Simplifying and modernizing the regulatory framework.
Increasing demand, strengthening the sector’s financial resources, resilience, and value chains in an increasingly competitive international environment.
