Washington (USA), 20 December (LaPresse) – The first US diplomats to visit Syria after the fall of President Bashar Assad have arrived in Damascus and are scheduled to hold talks with the country's new leadership. The US envoys to Damascus, as reported by the State Department, are senior diplomat for Near Eastern affairs Barbara Leaf, former special envoy for Syria Daniel Rubinstein, and the Biden administration's chief envoy for hostage negotiations Roger Carstens. High on their agenda is the desire to seek information on the whereabouts of US journalist Austin Tice, who has been missing in Syria since 2012. They will also focus on the principles of inclusiveness and rejection of terrorism and chemical weapons, which, according to the Biden administration, are central to US support for a new Syrian government.
