Israel: state of emergency approved until 16 December 2025

Naples, Dec 24 (LaPresse) – The Israeli parliament has approved the extension of the state of emergency in the country until 16 December 2025, in accordance with the recommendations of the security cabinet. A total of 29 MPs voted in favour of the resolution, seven Knesset members voted against, according to The Times of Israel. The state of emergency allows the cabinet to issue regulations that override Knesset legislation. Last May, the Knesset had extended the state of emergency for six months. A bill was also passed that increases Israel's deficit limit to 7.7% of GDP from the current 6.6%, allowing the government to increase the 2024 budget by $9 billion, much of which will be allocated to defence spending.
