Frankfurt (Germany), Dec 17 (LaPresse) – The mother of Russian opposition figure Vladimir Kara-Murza has been moved to the isolation ward of the Charité Hospital in Berlin for suspected poisoning, Welt reports. Law enforcement authorities have increased security measures as a precaution.
The Berlin police confirmed they are investigating a suspected attempted murder. “The patient has been moved to the isolation ward of the Charité. Blood tests are being conducted for all types of toxic substances. All measures required by the police to ensure public safety and identify potential suspects are underway,” reads a police post on X.
“The woman stated that she belongs to a high-risk group,” a police spokesperson said, as reported by Bild. According to Tagesspiegel, the nerve agent Novichok may have been used against the woman – the same substance employed to poison Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny, who was treated in Berlin in 2020 and later died under suspicious circumstances while imprisoned in Russia this past February.
