Abuja (Nigeria), 21 Dec (LaPresse/AP) – In Nigeria's capital, Abuja, ten people, including four children, were killed in the stampede that broke out during a Christmas event organised by a local church where food was being distributed. This was reported by the local police. The crush occurred in the early hours of the morning at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, from where more than 1,000 people were evacuated, police spokeswoman Josephine Adeh said in a statement. It is the second such stampede in the most populous country in Africa in one week. Local organisations, churches and individuals are increasingly organising charity events in the run-up to Christmas, while the cost of living has soared.
