Rome, Dec 17 (LaPresse) – "I interpret through this lens the growing and concerning phenomenon of abstentionism, which has been observed in electoral rounds for several years now. A democracy without the people would be a ghost democracy. A weak democracy. It is essential to work to restore trust, starting above all with rebuilding the relationship between people and institutions."
This was stated by President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella during the ceremony for the exchange of end-of-year greetings with representatives of institutions, political forces, and civil society.
