Rome, 26 January (LaPresse) – "The controversy surrounding ICE in Milan-Cortina is based on nothing. At this moment, the Americans, like everyone else, have not listed the types of attendees who will be here in Italy accompanying the delegations. But I want to clarify: ICE, as such, will never operate in Italy. It seems obvious to me that we are sufficiently in control of immigration management, and we are talking about an event that has nothing to do with immigration. If it were ever to happen, but we are talking about hypotheticals, individual personnel belonging to any American security organisation would only carry out close security measures that have nothing to do with what is generating discussion." This was stated by Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi on the sidelines of the presentation of the book “Dalla parte delle divise” (On the side of the uniforms) at the Mondadori bookshop in the Galleria Alberto Sordi in Rome. “If it happens, we'll see. For now, we're talking about nothing. A request to ask the US to exclude ICE from escort duties as well? That's the question if the problem arises. At the moment, it doesn't. If it ever does, the necessary assessments will be made,” the minister concluded.
