Rome, 4 June (LaPresse) – The Chamber of Deputies’ Constitutional Affairs Committee has adopted the so-called ‘Bignami bis’ as the draft bill for electoral reform. The committee’s bureau will now convene. The deadline for submitting amendments to the ‘Bignami bis’ – which the Constitutional Affairs Committee has adopted as the draft bill for electoral reform – is Thursday 11 June at 12 noon. This was decided by the committee’s bureau during a rather heated meeting. The majority had, in fact, proposed a deadline of Monday 8th at 6 pm, but the centre-left parties protested as the local election run-offs are due to take place on the same date. This led to the deadline being set for Thursday 11 June. “These are absurd deadlines; there are also political steps to be taken. Mr Chairman, you have a duty to intervene,” protested Simona Bonafè of the PD. “Clearly, it is not true that there is a willingness to cooperate; do not expect cooperation from us because we have got off to a very bad start.” On Monday 15, eligibility will therefore be determined and any appeals will be processed. From 16 to 23 June, amendments will be voted on ‘until a decision is reached’, with the aim of giving the rapporteur a mandate on Wednesday 24 and proceeding to the Chamber, as per the timetable established by the Conference of Group Leaders of the Chamber of Deputies, on Friday 26.
