Turin, Dec. 27 (LaPresse) – "VAR should only be used for clear and serious incidents. We must not turn it into a replay tool. Regarding VAR on demand, it’s not up to us to decide; we are always open to potential changes and innovations. However, it’s clear that VAR on demand shifts a lot of responsibility, placing the decision to call for a review on the club or the coach.

I believe instead we need to focus on training individuals in front of the monitor who are capable of making decisions, determining when to intervene or not—that is, when an incident is clearly wrong or not.

We are doing good work overall. We have initiated collaborations with the Coaches’ Association and the Players’ Association to help our referees better understand the dynamics of the game. A referee must be a great student of football, not just its rules," said Serie A referee coordinator Gianluca Rocchi in an interview set to air this evening on Radio 1 during Zona Cesarini.
