Milan, Dec 17 (LaPresse) – Olympic gold medalist skier Mikaela Shiffrin has undergone abdominal surgery to clean a wound sustained during a giant slalom race accident two weeks ago. The incident occurred on November 30 during the Killington Cup in Vermont, where she was leading the race and chasing her 100th World Cup victory.
Shiffrin lost control near the finish line, slid into a gate, hit her head on her skis, and collided with another gate before stopping against a protective fence.
"I had a minor, unexpected procedure Thursday evening after feeling a little unwell," Shiffrin wrote on social media, explaining, “I’ll share more updates as we know what the next few weeks will bring. I’m so grateful for all the wonderful care and support I’ve received! The hardest part right now is not being at the finish line to watch my teammates race in person.”
