Milan, Dec. 20 (LaPresse) – "The most important thing today is that we have elected Simonelli as president, who will be officially confirmed after verifying the requirements. We are confident because he has met the criteria to run." This was stated by Inter president Beppe Marotta, commenting on the election of Ezio Maria Simonelli as the new head of Serie A.

"It’s important that 14 clubs have today expressed a desire for renewal, which, without targeting individuals, must be implemented quickly. This is a significant fact," he added.

Regarding the six blank votes and strategies to boost Italian football, Marotta stressed, "There will be an internal discussion; we must also engage in self-criticism. However, we want to remain united to identify a strategy for proper recognition of an industrial sector that does not deserve to be mistreated."

"Serie A and football are very important industries, and today we are not recognized for what we are. The priority is to identify a unified strategy for this renewal," Marotta concluded.
