Milan, Dec. 20 (LaPresse) – "The project we are working on today is the twin brother of the old San Siro project I talked about in 2018. Six years have passed, and nothing has happened. I don't want to absolve politics, but it must also be said that people's mentality has changed over the years. Many used to say they didn’t want to tear down San Siro, and I’d ask them if they’d ever seen a modern stadium," said Milan President Paolo Scaroni on Radio Serie A on RDS.
"The only iconic elements are Milan and Inter, not San Siro. Now people see other European stadiums and beautiful structures, and the idea that the new is better than the existing is gaining ground among Milanese, who have realized that while San Siro is beautiful, it’s better to have a new, modern stadium," he added.
Regarding the San Donato project, Scaroni commented: "San Donato has gone from being Plan A to Plan B since the heritage authority removed the famous restrictions. Nonetheless, I thank the mayor. A negotiation process has now begun. Inter and we need to purchase the stadium and the surrounding areas, including space for the two clubs’ offices and the museum, as well as obtain permits and so forth. It’s such a significant operation that we’re negotiating a contract with the City, and it must be perfect. I must say I’m quite optimistic," he concluded.
