Milan, Dec. 22 (LaPresse) – Oleksandr Usyk successfully defended his world heavyweight titles by beating Englishman Tyson Fury on points with a unanimous decision Saturday night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Judges Gerardo Martinez, Patrick Morley and Ignacio Robles awarded identical scores in favour of the Ukrainian champion, 116-112.Usyk thus confirmed his undefeated pro career. The Ukrainian boxer landed only 179 punches out of 423 (42%), while Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) landed only 144 of the 509 punches thrown, at a 28% clip. Asked if he agreed with the judges' scores, Usyk implied that it is not his job to ask questions, only to box. ‘I won, and that's good,’ said Usyk, who now has a 23-0 record, with 14 Ko. ‘It's not my job to judge. I win. Thank you, God,’ he added. Last night's bout was a much-anticipated rematch of last May's bout in which Fury suffered his first defeat, a match that lived up to expectations from the moment the boxers entered the arena.
