Milan, 23 December (LaPresse) – It will be a Christmas that overcomes resignation and loneliness, at the beginning of the Jubilee whose theme is hope. A great celebration that, starting from Santa Maria in Trastevere – where the first Christmas lunch with the poor was held in 1982 – will take place in many other districts of the capital and in a hundred or so Italian cities, with 80,000 people seated at the table. The same event, on Christmas Day, will be held in some seventy countries around the world, with 250 thousand guests. At 1pm, the Trastevere basilica will be filled with the homeless, the elderly, families in difficulty, refugees, including some who have arrived in Italy thanks to the humanitarian corridors. For the festive banquet, where people from the Community sit down to lunch with the guests, the traditional menu is planned: lasagne, meatloaf, lentils, Christmas sweets. A table – explains Sant'Egidio – where there is a confusion between who serves and who is served and where each person will receive a personalised gift, as happens in every family.
